Project Goals and Objectives

Improve brook trout habitat and stream function by providing cover, retaining organic material and fine sediment, creating pools, narrowing the low-flow channel, and improving floodplain access.

Structure Construction Elements

We call our technique strategic wood addition. On small streams where bankfull width is two times the average tree height, our methods our similar to chop-and-drop. On larger streams, we use a grip hoist to position downed trees in secure configurations. Some of this work began in 2013 and 2014, but some of the work was done in 2018.
