Project Goals and Objectives

Project goals include reconnecting the floodplain and improving habitat for beaver, birds, fish etc., increasing perennial flow in East Canyon Creek as it's run dry in recent years, and re-creating wetlands and sequestering carbon. Beaver are locally present and likely to return. Project funding was provided by the Water Restoration Initiative and the Park City Climate Fund. Project partners include a private landowner, the Swaner EcoPreserve, and Sageland Collaborative.

Structure Construction Elements

We built beaver dam analogs (BDAs) using untreated wood posts (2-4" diameter) pounded into the stream-bed at the height of the ordinary high water mark and then filled in by volunteers using on-site materials including sustainably harvested willow branches, mud, rocks, and clumps of sod.
