Project Goals and Objectives

Capture post-fire sediment in incised reaches of Trout and Saxon Creek within and downstream of Caldor Fire. Goals are to aggrade channel, increase flood-plain connectivity, recruit LWD and increase channel complexity.

Structure Construction Elements

Initial construction of 60 post-assisted log structures in fall of 2022. Adaptive management and construction of additional structures in fall of 2023. Project planned and overseen by the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District with construction done by the California Conservation Corps and funding from the USFS. An aquatic organism passage and 900 LF stream restoration project (https://eip.laketahoeinfo.org/Project/FactSheet/01.02.01.0084) was also constructed around the Saxon Creek Fountain Place Road bridge in fall of 2022 and structures were also built in the restored channel as part of that project.
