Volunteers helped to install rock baskets and naturalize social trails by preventing incision around trailheads. Desert environments are easily disturbed by human tracks, this project aimed to reduce off-trail walking while also installing one-rock-dams to slow rushing water from sudden rain events. Seven volunteers completed this project in approximately 100 hours.
Ten one-rock dams were installed using local rocks collected from 1/4 mile away. The treatment site lacks large rocks, so having two big pick-up trucks and excited helpers made this task much easier. Having a sturdy and agile wheelbarrow was helpful in moving the rocks from the truck to the individual locations.
