Project Goals and Objectives

Radiant Creek is a tributary of the Clearwater River watershed and the North Saskatchewan River. With 95% of the Clearwater River watershed land unprotected, the watershed is subject to industrial, agricultural, and recreational land uses that can cause sedimentation, erosion, and habitat loss for threatened species, including Bull Trout (Salvelinus confluentus). Previous work had been completed on Radiant Creek (Lower Rehabilitation). This "upper" section is nearby (just up stream and across the highway) and is another part of a habitat offsetting agreement. Rehabilitation work along Upper Radiant Creek took place during the 2024 field season including the introduction of PALS (post-assisted log structures), BDAs (beaver dam analogues), and exclusionary fencing . Restoration monitoring includes a aerial imagery which began in 2023 (pre-intervention) and will be taken annually. Partial orthoimagery exists from 2020-2023. The introduced structures will be maintained for up to five years and are expected to produce the following outcomes (when compared to pre-construction conditions): - Increase in pool area of 10% - Increase in channel length of 2% - Increase in-stream woody debris by 350 m2

Structure Construction Elements

Construction Elements Include: 16 Post-assisted Log Structures (PALS; 90m^2) 5 Beaver Dam Analogs (45m^2). ~1,030 m of Exclusionary fences.
