Project Goals and Objectives

The larger project is restoring riparian areas that were lost during development in the 20th century. This part of the project area is very wet and was much better suited for PBR rather than more intensive restoration actions. Goals are to treat headcuts, promote overbanking, and increase channel complexity in areas were Burke Creek runs through an old irrigation ditch. Beaver colonies are located directly upstream and downstream of the project area, and another goal is to encourage the beavers to interact with the structures and interact more with these areas of channels. Beavers have added on to some of the structures that were constructed.

Structure Construction Elements

Posts with sod. In areas where the channel is rather small a single post was used securing sod in the channel. As well, beavers have already interacted and added on to some of the structures. More intensive restoration actions were taken upstream and downstream of the BDAs to remove fill placed on the meadow in the 20th century.
