The French Creek is one of the most productive Coho Salmon creek on the West Coast. A series of six BDAs were constructed in the summer of 2017. The French Creek BDA site was implemented on a side channel with the intent to create important slow water habitat for overwintering juvenile Coho Salmon. Additionally, the project aimed at giving a place for beaver the ability to tuck out of the swift winter waters with the hopes they take up permanent residence, which they have. French Creek is incised and can large, high velocity flows during winter storms, particularly rain on snow events, and having velocity refuge is vital for both coho Salmon and beaver.
