Project Goals and Objectives

Miners Creek is a tributary to French Creek and another highly productive Coho Salmon stream within Scott River watershed. BDA construction was done in two phases. The first series of BDAs was constructed in 2015 and the second in 2018. Miners Creek, although a relatively small stream system, is a highly productive Coho Salmon stream. This site has had two separate phases of construction, the first in 2015 and the second 2018. This project, in collaboration with the landowner, aims at provided critical overwintering habitat along with a increasing the residence time of the water, allowing for sediment deposition and increase riparian health. The stream channel was only mildly incised and the goal was to connect the channel to the floodplain. The stream has a history of becoming dry during dry water years. Miners Creek is a granitic with very high sediment loads, we saw two feet of deposition behind several 40 meter long BDAs after a single storm event.
